about our machine

we have a risograph rz 220 ui.

this machine (more aptly called a duplicator than a printer- it doesn’t connect to the internet) prints one color at a time and when the colors layer, you get all kinds of beautiful tones and variations. it works using what’s called a master. think of it like a stencil- you scan a greyscale image onto the scanner bed, which is then burned into the master roll to make a super thin stencil, sticking to the ink drum and allowing the ink through at varying opacities. it is a lot like screen printing!

our current color offerings are blue, yellow, fluorescent pink, and black. thanks to the magic of color theory, we can print pretty much anything with those! but as we grow and hear from our customers, our options will expand.

all paper must be uncoated, as the ink needs to be absorbed

possible projects include business cards, flyers, posters, fine art prints, zines, booklets, promotional materials, and just about anything else on paper!

our goal at ghost in the house is to help you make your art and get you excited about printing with riso!
